What Could Have Been…

I hate to complain, but I’m gonna complain.  Sure, it’s a moot point and hindsight is 20/20.  But when you see the USA Women’s Synchronized Diving team take 5th, you’ve gotta wonder: Did the committee pick the right divers for the job?  NO WAY!  The competition before the committee in early August was so tight, Woodlands divers Laura Wilkinson and Jessica Livingston filed a lawsuit to appeal the decisionThey lost that appeal after a long day in Los Angeles.   Sure, China put on a stunning display, nearly perfectly synchronized.  But we could have done better.  Imagine what could have been…

Consider this: If the Woodlands women go out on a limb to protest the decision, there’s got to be a good reason why.  The point: Wilkinson and Livingston are too good not to have been selected.  Consider this: If you’ve got a chance to have one of the best ever in the event, why wouldn’t pick her?  The point: Someone on the committee wasn’t paying attention.

Of course, we’ll never know the possibilities since the event is over and this is Wilkinson’s last Olympics.  But she’s not bitter.  Wilkinson was in the crowd Tuesday with fellow Woodlands diver Nancilea Foster, cheering on Team USA.  Wilkinson goes for the gold in her individual event when the platform preliminaries begin Wednesday, August 20th.
