Laws For Teen “Sexting”

We had a piece on the morning show today about teens facing child porn charges for “sexting,” which is defined as exchanging sexually graphic pictures through cell phones.  The story was out of Ohio (click here to read it), where lawmakers want to clarify the law so children aren’t labeled as sex offenders for sexting.  In Vermont, the state legislature is taking a different approach, considering making sexting legal for teens. 1. Although it’s incredibly poor judgement for a teen to send sexually graphic pictures of her/himself, it’s idiotic to label them “sex offenders” and child pornographers. That is NOT what sex offender and child pornography laws are for. Yes, the consequences of making such poor decisions can be devastating, but to label a teen a criminal is just plain stupid.
