There’s The Circus, Then There’s Cirque du Soleil

The modern flying trapeze!

Gymnastics + Art = Cirque du Soleil.  Okay, that’s an elementary equation. This “Cirque” is so much more than that.  Consider the athleticism, strength, and balance it takes just to pull off the performance; mix in the music, dance, and overall choreography; and don’t forget the costumes, set design, and storyline.  The Cirque du Soleil phenomenon has penetrated the American cultural landscape.  Dare I say it made the circus cool again, especially for adults.

And just when you think you’ve seen it all, Cirque du Soleil comes back with new movements, new stories, and new vibes.  This week and next, the traveling arena show, “Cirque du Soleil Saltimbanco,” comes to the Houston area — from Wednesday July 15th through Sunday July 19th at the Berry Center in Cypress, TX and Wednesday July 22nd through Sunday July 26th at Toyota Center in Houston. We’re sending morning show staff member Kevin “Taco Manny” to check out the Cypress show.  And I’ll be at Toyota Center next week. So we’ll give you the low down.  Check the facebook fan page.

  1. I’ve seen four of these – one in Houston several years ago, two in Vegas a few years back and one in NY a month ago. They were all phenomenol, but the Beatles “Love” show in Vegas was by far the best – at least in my opinion. If you’re fortunate to attend even one, though, you’re guaranteed a great time – it’s rather like a human fireworks display. 🙂

  2. I went to Cirque de Soleil in Orlando and saw the Vareki (sp) show. It was amazing and our daughter was only 5 years old and she never moved during the show because it was so amazing. My mother attended the Beatles show in Vegas and said it was truly amazing as well. I don’t think they ever have a bad show. We are thinking about attending another one soon. It is definately an evening of fun and can be quite educational as well.
